Glass Mosaics

Our glass mosaics are created by mortaring stained glass onto Wedi board, then grouted and polished. Wedi board is a lightweight, indoor/outdoor product ideally suited for mosaic work. Wood is also used as a substrate and we carve out the wood and inlay the glass pieces. We also create mosaics by gluing stained glass onto glass panels (glass on glass). If you have questions about available mosaics or commissions please contact us.

Witness – Approx 22″x 66″ – Stained glass inlaid into a 200+year old Big Leaf Maple live edge piece from the Cowichan Valley. Climate change and global warming are impacting our world in so many ways. Forest fires, flooding and extreme weather events are sadly becoming the norm, threatening habitats. Our hope is that we can reverse this trend and protect our environment and its inhabitants.

Whales of the Salish Sea – 18″x 48″  Stained glass inlaid in live edge walnut.  This mosaic highlights the migratory Humpback Whales that pass through our local waters in BC.  We know that it is imperative to keep our oceans vital and free of hazards for these majestic mammals.

The Force of Nature – 21.75″x 33.5″  This mosaic is all about the extreme weather we now face as a result of global warming. It evokes the high winds and churning ocean of a big storm. Events like this are sadly becoming more common along with heat domes and the yearly fire season. This mosaic is available for purchase. Please contact us for details.

Misunderstood – 12″x 12″   A personal encounter in James Bay, Victoria with Takaya, the lone wolf from Discovery Island, was the inspiration for this mosaic. Controversial wolf culls continue to happen here in BC. Our hope is that the killing of these beautiful and majestic animals will be abolished. By using the last piece of our spalted 200+ year old maple from the Chemainus Valley, that was highlighted in the OneTree 2019 exhibit at the Bateman Gallery, we pay tribute to both Takaya and the old growth Maple.
Beached – 18″x 24″   Made on a piece of the OneTree 2019, a 200+ year old Big Leaf Maple from the Cowichan Valley. Here on the west coast we are still able to find treasures like the Sand Dollar on our beaches, but these ecosystems need our continued vigilance to keep them vital.

On Thin Ice – 24″x 36″    This is our first installment of a new series, Habitats and Species at Risk. Polar bears are increasingly finding their sea ice habitat receding due to global warming. These mammals spend most of their lives on the sea ice, hunting, mating and resting. We chose to depict this polar bear treading water, her body disintegrating, simulating the breaking up of polar ice. Our hope is that these beautiful creatures have a sustainable place to live in the future.

Bonnie’s Shoe – 24″x 20″ In honour of Dr Bonnie Henry. This mosaic shoe is our interpretation of the one John Fluevog designed for Dr Henry. We reached out to Dr Henry to let her know how much we appreciated her and offered her this piece of art.  She replied promptly, and graciously said she would love to add it to her growing COVID art collection! There are plans to create an art installation at her offices, of the accolades she has received and we are thrilled to have our mosaic be part of that.
